Head of Primary, Mrs Kim Piercey, joined Prep students for a special learning event: I Am a Scientist Day.
“I had the absolute pleasure of visiting our Prep classrooms, and I have to say, it was one of those days that remind you why early learning is such a magical place,” she said. “Everywhere I went, students were buzzing with curiosity, joy, and that unmistakable spark that comes from hands-on discovery.

“In Prep Blue, I walked in just as the students were eagerly forming hypotheses and diving into their experiment. The excitement was contagious, especially when the slime appeared! Little hands were busy touching, smelling, stretching, and exploring, and the delight on their faces when they each received their own bag of slime to take home was priceless.

“In Prep Orange, the room was alive with wonder as students explored chemical reactions. They asked thoughtful questions, made predictions, and used all their senses to observe what happens when baking soda meets vinegar. The grand finale – a volcanic eruption – had everyone wide-eyed and buzzing.

“In Prep Red, I stepped into a world of colour and light. Students revisited primary colours and reflected on God’s creation of light from the very beginning. Their discovery that white light hides a rainbow inside sparked such joy. With chalk in hand, they created beautiful rainbow art and then headed outdoors to experiment with crystal prisms, watching tiny spectra dance in the sunshine. The whole experience felt bright, joyful, and full of wonder.

“In Prep Yellow, the students were completely captivated by the moving colours milk experiment. As the soap interacted with the fat in the milk, swirling patterns and vibrant colours emerged, and the room filled with excited predictions and observations. It was a simple experiment that turned into a mesmerising display of colour and motion.

“In Prep Green, I watched students marvel as colours “walked” between cups during their Walking Water experiment. Their gasps of delight as a rainbow slowly formed were unforgettable. What began as a simple setup quickly became a moment of pure discovery, with students eagerly observing every change.
“Walking through each classroom, I was reminded of how powerful hands-on learning can be. Our Prep students weren’t just learning Science – they were experiencing it, feeling it, and joyfully making sense of God’s world. It was a wonderful day, and I left each room feeling incredibly proud of our students and grateful for our dedicated teachers who make these moments possible.”
