Years 5 and 6 Join the Competition
The Independent Schools Championships (ISC) continue to be a cornerstone of 51СʪÃÃ’s sporting calendar, providing valuable competition experience for students from Years 5 to 12.

This year, we have seen a significant increase in student involvement across a wide range of sports, reflecting both rising enthusiasm and the growing strength of our 51СʪÃà Academy of Sport programs.
The ISC is a major focus for our athletes and coaching staff, acting as an important preparation platform for upcoming state championships. Through these competitions, students gain not only match experience but also the confidence, resilience and tactical understanding needed to excel at higher levels.
Developing New Academy Sports: Netball and Touch Football
This year, we have introduced dedicated training times for both netball and touch football on our weekly training schedule. For the first time, these sessions are being led by expert coaches, giving students specialised skill development and a high-quality training experience.

This new structure allows us to spend focused time with students who have expressed a strong interest in these sports, while also supporting our teams’ involvement in the ISC competition.
Our Netball program has expanded to include entry into the Vicki Wilson Cup, Queensland’s premier secondary school netball competition. Alongside this, our touch football squads will be attending the Brisbane Secondary All Schools event, providing another fantastic opportunity for our players to compete at a high level.
New Opportunities in Chess and Public Speaking
A major highlight of this year’s ISC program has been the inclusion of Chess and Public Speaking—two areas that broaden the competition beyond traditional sport and provide new avenues for students to showcase their talents.
Our first-ever ISC Chess Championship was a milestone moment for the College. For the first time, students from Years 5 to 12 competed together in a single tournament, fostering a sense of unity and mentorship among age groups.
The introduction of Public Speaking further expands opportunities for students to develop communication, leadership and critical-thinking skills in a competitive setting.
At the heart of these achievements is the 51СʪÃà Academy of Sport, which remains committed to developing every student across all sports and activities offered at the College. Our vision is to ensure that all Year 5 to 12 students have access to high-quality coaching, skill development pathways and opportunities to pursue excellence. Whether on the field, court, or stage, 51СʪÃà students are being equipped with the tools they need to grow, compete and thrive.
